Syrian Youth Empowerment (SYE), an organization co-founded and led by Blossom Hill Fellow, George Batah, hosted their first Mentors Retreat in New York City in partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the International Institute of Education from November 30 - December 2. A total of 28 SYE mentors from eight states participated in the three-day retreat. The program included a diverse set of activities that focused on strategic training, bonding among participants to build a sense of community around the program, and navigating the Middle Eastern heritage and the role of the young generation in preserving it. Expert panelists discussed the admissions process for Syrian students, scholarship programs, and education in emergencies. This was followed by a guided tour at the MET on Syrian Heritage from Mesopotamia to Islam.
