A member of the Afghan diaspora, Maryam was born in Iran and had been a long-time student of the empowerment programs offered through Omid, a Blossom Hill Foundation grantee since 2013. When she raised her plan to marry someone of her own choosing, Maryam met resistance from her family. Due to the self-confidence she gained through the leadership program, she was successful in convincing her family to allow her to make this important decision for herself. Maryam now runs a hotline for young women seeking guidance on managing such family matters as selecting one’s partner.
Maryam is just one example of Omid’s program that provides young women in Iran with three years of critical skill-building and empowerment classes. Blossom Hill Foundation is happy to be able to continue to support Omid and its Leadership and Peer Education Program in Tehran, Iran. Our funding will help train 30 young women to become educators and leaders—modeling success for current students and creating leadership opportunities for these striving young women.
