Our grantee, Right To Play (RTP), uses sport and play to educate and empower children and youth living in adversity to overcome the effects of poverty, conflict and disease across the world. Blossom Hill Foundation supports Right To Play’s work in the West Bank and Gaza and we are inspired by their dedication to the community despite the many challenges faced by the region. Just last year, RTP reached 27,516 children and youth and trained over 1,000 teachers and community leaders in the constructive use of play. Admirably, they provide psychosocial activities to specifically help children, families and schools build back their lives following the devastating 50-day crisis in 2014 and offer them a sense of normalcy in an otherwise very un-normal context.
Play is a useful tool in developing skills like cooperation, leadership and teamwork and practicing important life lessons. A powerful outcome of Right to Play’s work with youth is the significant number of them who choose not to seek revenge if confronted with peer-initiated conflict. We are touched in seeing the joy and camaraderie experienced by the children!
